Welcome to the Historic Dorchester Academy

Dorchester Academy played a major role in the National Civil Rights Movement and in the educational, business, social, and political development of the African American community in Liberty County, Georgia.

The mission of the "Dorchester Improvement Association” is to preserve the African American culture, its collection of historical artifacts and physical structures in its original location, and continue the rich heritage of informing and enlightening the public about the educational, social, cultural, and religious heritage of Dorchester Academy.
The Board of Directors of the Dorchester Improvement Association has reaffirmed its committment to the utilization of Dorchester in providing community services geared to improving the economic, social and cultural conditions of the community.
